Repeating Shapes.

As you can see from some of the pictures above, repeating shapes are another feature you will often see. In fact, I only get excited about a tool when I find its twin. I know at that point it is not a fluke of nature. The interesting thing is I find these repeating patterns in various sizes. From micro to very large, some several hundred pounds. Regardless of size they share the same marks and features in the same areas.

Notice how close the two spheres on the left are in size.

The next two are interesting because they are very close in size and shape. It is a common shape that I find and looks very similar to pieces found in museums around the world. The blue arrows are pointing to notches that line up nearly perfectly when you put one of these on top of the other.

The next two pictures tries to show how close these tools are in size and shape by placing them on top of each other.

Now that you know the basics of what to look for I highly recommend taking the time to look over some of your favourite pieces as well. I see people all over the net picking up and posting similar pieces. I am willing to bet the farm that some of you will find the same marks and features in the same places as well.

This can’t be natural!

Not convinced? I highly recommend that you check out my post comparing tools I have found at this site and tools on display in museums and collections around the world. The similarity is uncanny.

Well that’s a start on probably already way too much information. For anybody who made it this far, thank you! I truly appreciate you taking the time to read this. I look forward to hearing any thoughts or insights you may have.

All my future posts should be much shorter and will show individual pieces highlighting the features I just showed you. I have some truly amazing pieces in my collection.
